The Keystone HPC Platform¶
High-performance computing centers all face a common challenge: how to allocate a limited pool of IT resources across large user groups with rapidly evolving demands. This makes a few jobs unavoidable. Someone has to decide how the capacity is shared, confirm it is being used the way it was intended, and account for what it ultimately produced. As a center grows and takes on more users, these stop being occasional tasks and become the everyday work of keeping a center running.
Traditionally, each of these jobs is handled independently. Resource allocation is managed in one place, monitoring in another, and reporting is stitched together afterward from whatever records happen to exist. Each tool performs well individually, but bridging the gaps between them creates friction and overhead. This disjointed workflow puts unneccessary strain on administrators and translates into a worse customer experience for HPC users.
Keystone solves this problem by providing a unified management platform for HPC resources. Users get self-service access to request resources and monitor team consumption. Administrators get a central control plane for setting allocation policy, monitoring usage in real time, and tracing that usage back to individual teams and projects. Because allocation and access are governed together, the two never drift apart. Keystone's built-in automation keeps every change in sync, so what Keystone records and what the machines permit are always the same thing.
